5G Phone List – Worldwide & India | 5G Mobile Speeds

On August 4th, 2018 Moto held a new product launch conference in Chicago, launched a new generation of Moto Z3 flagship mobile 5G phone. In addition, Moto also launched a 5G module for Moto Z3. This made the communication veteran Moto take another “first”.

5G cellular technology is being developed and tested, the year 2019 will see few deployments in some countries. Companies have already announced their 5G cellular modems such as Qualcomm Snadragon X50, MediaTek Helio M70, Huawei Balong 5G01, among others. In this post, we are taking a look at the 5G speed features these cellular modems can provide.

5G Phone

Technically, there is no 5G phone in this world as of today. However, network tests are being conducted across various developing and developed countries.

Having said that, Motorola (Lenovo/Google) held a new product launch conference at its Chicago HQ for its new generation of Moto Z3 flagship mobile phone, and more importantly, Moto will initiate the 5G connectivity this time.

The Moto Z3 is powered by the Snapdragon 835 which has high-end LTE capabilities. However, the company will launch a 5G mod for attaching it to the Moto Z3.

As of today, Qualcomm said that the new 5G baseband has not been shipped, and the Moto 5G mod (module) should be officially released in early 2019. Further, 5G connectivity will consume a large amount of battery power, hence the mod with come with an in-built 2,000 mAh battery.

The US, Netherlands, and China are ahead in deploying and testing the 5G network systems. The Moto Z3 will be shipped through Verizon carriers only at a price of 480 US Dollars.

Moto Z3 5G Phone Specifications

Moto Z3 equipped with a 6-inch 18:9 Super AMOLED 2K resolution screen, equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, 4GB memory + 64GB flash memory, running Android 8.1, and will follow Android 9.0 for the first time, battery capacity is 3000 mAh.

Further, there are some recent developments in 5G modems which will enable 5G connectivity in smartphones by integrating the 5G baseband chip into the system-on-chip (mobile processors). Also, below information summarizes the 5G phones which will be using these chips.

Huawei Balong 5G01 Modem

Last year, Huawei announced the first commercially available 5G chip Balong 5G01 based on the 3GPP standard. This chip basically contains the mainstream of the world’s 5G band working with both sub-6 GHz and mmWave bands, and capable of achieving 2.3 Gbps peak throughput (download data rate).

Huawei Balong 5G01 chip is found in two HUAWEI 5G CPE, basically 5G WiFi router, one working at sub 6 GHz (low frequency) and the other working at mmWave bands (high frequency).

Huawei 5G Smartphones

Kirin chipset (not mentioned) will carry the modem for smartphones. Huawei’s Mate series of smartphones will carry the 5G modem. Huawei Mate 30 Pro is expected to be a full-fledged 5G Smartphone.

  • Announced: April 2017
  • Modem: Balong 5G01
  • Max. 5G Speed: 2.3 Gbps (theoretical)
  • Chipset: Kirin (Model Not Specified)
  • 5G Phone/Devices: Huawei Mate Series

Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 Modem

Last year in October, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon X50 5G baseband chip for smartphones, automobile, etc. At present, the X50 baseband supports mmWave spectrum in the 28GHz band and supports multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology.

The X50 5G modem chipset has already achieved gigabit speeds and data connectivity in the 28GHz millimeter wave band. Further, by supporting 800MHz wideband, the theoretical peak value of the X50 baseband downlink rate can reach up to 5 Gbps (625MB/s).

Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G Smartphones

The X50 will be commercially available in the first half of 2018. As per the initial exposure, the Snapdragon 855 will carry the 5G Modem. The Snapdragon 855 will be equipped in the major flagships of 2019.

As of today, Qualcomm’s X20 LTE modem provides Gigabit download rates. The X50 will be more powerful to be used in smartphones and automotive.

  • Announced: October 2017
  • Modem: Snapdragon X50
  • Max. 5G Speed: 5 Gbps (theoretical)
  • Chipset: Snapdragon 855
  • 5G Phone/Devices: 2019 Flagships (to be announced)

MediaTek Helio M70 Modem

At the Computex 2018 conference, MediaTek announced the latest progress of its 5G baseband chip: The Helio M70 5G modem is set to debut in 2019.

The Helio M70 5G radio modem is compatible with 3GPP Release 15, supports data rates up to 5 Gbps, as well as “critical carrier features”.

MediaTek is actively participating in the 3GPP conference on the 5G standard setting standards and is working with NOKIA, NTT Docomo, China Mobile and Huawei equipment vendors and operators to conduct more in-depth cooperation.

MediaTek 5G Phones

According to Chen Guanzhou, general manager of MediaTek, it is expected that the first 5G baseband chip M70 to be launched next year will use TSMC’s 7nm process technology.

  • Announced: June 2018
  • Modem: Helio M70
  • Max. 5G Speed: 5 Gbps (theoretical)
