The following piece highlights the key differences between Helio P60 Vs Snapdragon 660. Both counterparts fall in the upper mid-range (mid-end) chip segment designed for smartphones.
Recently, there has been a buzz in the industry regarding the features of the Helio P60 and its power against the mighty Snapdragon 660. Let’s unravel the truth behind their marketing campaign with Real Me 1 and netizens discussion.
Helio P60 Has Better CPU Design
Taking the advantage of TSMC’s advanced 12nm FinFET process node, Helio P60 integrates an 8-core CPU (4 high-performance large core + 4 power-saving small core). The quad-core high-performance A73 core has a good single-core performance. Together with the quad-core A53 power-saving core, performance and power consumption are balanced. The performance of the Helio P60 is higher than that of the Snapdragon 660 which is built on the 14nm node.
Snapdragon 660 Has a Better GPU
In the GPU part, the P60 is lower than the Snapdragon 660 and higher than the Snapdragon 636. Adreno, the in-house GPU line-up performs great against the raw Mali GPU IP core in the Helio P60. Having said that, Mali G72 GPU is not a bad choice as compared with the previous MediaTek GPU, the GPU performance has improved a lot, and it has good game performance under the 1080P resolution mobile phone screen.
Snapdragon 660 Has Better AI Capabilities
Despite having a separate AI accelerator (Dual APU), the Helio P60 is not as good as the SD660. Snapdragon taking the vector approach (use of GPU, CPU, DSP) for processing AI algorithms enable better performance in terms of AI-based tasks – face recognition, AI photos, etc.
The P60 is compatible with the most popular AI artificial intelligence platform, so that AI is no longer exclusive to high-end processors. This is something that other brands of mid-range processors do not currently have. The P60 uses TSMC’s 12-nanometer process for further processing. Reduced, performance and peripheral functions have been improved, there is no problem of down-frequency check.
Overall, Snapdragon 660 is a wiser choice as it integrates better faster LTE modem, RAM Specification, ISP, GPU, etc. However, Helio P60 is one of the best design by the company which will change the course of its journey.
