In May this year, Qualcomm officially released the new 700 series mobile CPU, the Snapdragon 710, which can be regarded as an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 660 AIE. On May 31, Xiaomi released the MI 8 SE (smaller version) of the MI 8 which is powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor. Many netizens are in a doubt, whether the smaller version powered by the Snapdragon 710 is better than Snapdragon 845 version?

The most important factors determining the performance of a processor are architecture, frequency, core, baseband, power management, and so on. Having said that, chip vendors such as Qualcomm, MediaTek, etc. produce a chipset for various markets.

In view of this, the SD710 targets the sub-premium devices, while the SD845 powers the high-end smartphones.
From the CPU design perspective, the SD710 uses the same third-generation Kryo CPU architecture compared to the SD845. It is also built on the most advanced 10nm FinFET process, and memory storage, AI and other aspects are almost sthe ame.

The key differences are mainly the CPU core number, frequency, GPU, baseband modem versions. In a nutshell, SD845 is 2018’s flagship processors, and it has more features than SD710 in performance.

Anyway, let’s take a look at the technical parameter of the chips and determine the performance difference between the two.

In terms of which is the most powerful one, hands down! Snapdragon 845 powering the MI 8 will enable high performance. Having said that, Snapdragon 710 performs well especially compared to the Snapdragon 820/821 flagship CPUs. It has advantages of architecture, low power consumption, and AI features.
As per the online benchmark and test results, the running performance of the SD710 is about the same as that of the SD821.

The new version of the AntuTu v7 runs at around 180,000 points, which is slightly lower than the Snapdragon 835 running point of ~200,000. Compared to the 260,000+ points of the Snapdragon 845 flagship machine, there is a big gap. However, compared with the running point of about 140,000 points of the Snapdragon 660 processor, the performance has also been significantly improved.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the Snapdragon 845 baseband version is higher than the Snapdragon 710, which means that in the future, in terms of network support, the Snapdragon 845 will have more advantages and can support higher speed mobile networks (4.5G network), but for the average user, there is almost no difference in the experience.

Snapdragon 710 Vs 845 Vs 660 Vs 835

Simply put, the performance of SD710 is between Snapdragon 820 and Snapdragon 835. In non-snapdragon line-up, the SD710 stands between Kirin 960 and Kirin 970. Its performance is close to the Apple A10 chip. It is a good replacement for Snapdragon 821/835, and even Snapdragon 660.

Snapdragon 660: 140,000
Snapdragon 710: 180,000
Snapdragon 835: ~200,000
Snapdragon 845: ~260,000
