After the official announcement of the Apple A11 Bionic processor, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 845 processor as a contender to the former. 1. Apple A11 Bionic Processor Has More Transistors

3. Apple A11 Bionic Integrates A Powerful Neural Engine
The smartphone industry is embracing the “Artificial Intelligence (AI)” trend. All SoC (system-on-chip) vendors are chasing it by integrating neural network engine/processor into their chips. Neural Engine enables machine learning, natural language processing, image recognition, and other AI applications. In view of the above, the Hexagon 685 DSP in the Snapdragon 845 is repurposed by Qualcomm to enable some amount of AI-related applications such as face-unlock, voice recognition, photography, etc.
In comparison to the Hexagon DSP, the Apple A11 chip is termed as “Bionic” due to the integration of a Neural Engine (NE) which enables tasks only carried out by humans. The NE is more powerful than the Hexagon DSP, as we are familiar with the imagining capabilities of the iPhone A8 and iPhone X.
